Notice: If you were
scheduled for April delivery, we were recently informed
that we will be
receiving our initial inventory of the '63
models the first week of June. Danelectro (Evets Corp.) had
originally told us delivery would be
in late April because that's what the factory was
projecting. The waiting is certainly frustrating for us all.
However, when those '63's finally arrive it will have been well
worth the wait so please remain patient and hang in
there just a little while longer. We will process orders
as quickly as possible when the new Danos arrive. Thank you
for your understanding!

Dano
'63 Guitar
25"
scale
Introducing the first
re-issue of the highly coveted Silvertone 1449 model from the
early 60's made by Danelectro and sold exclusively through the Sears
& Roebuck retail store
chain.
Back in '63,
Danelectro's "model 1449" would soon become the rage of garage bands
and pros alike. Why? Tone! Danelectro's pickups, ingeniously housed
in lipstick tubes, quickly became known for their "signature twang."
The guitar bodies were lightweight and featured a hollow inner
chamber which made them sonically "alive"...unlike traditional solid
bodies.
Fast forward 45 years. Danelectro re-issues this
prized guitar...now calling it the Dano '63. Our first task in
bringing back this great guitar was to replicate the 60s era
Lipstick pickups. That meant aquiring dozens of old Lipsticks,
tearing them apart, and uncoveing their secrets. The resulting
reissue pickups are hot and sweet, and are soncially accurate to the
original 60s pickups.
Next the tuners and bridge were
upgraded, to make the guitar as fun to play as it is to hear! And to
make it fun to look at, we combed the old paint archives for just
the right "retro" colors to captured the soul and spirit of the
original 60s instruments. We then plated all the hardware with
zero-gloss nickel. And to be faithful to the Danelectro legacy, it
is priced to be just as affordable as its 45 year old cousin!
The Dano '63 features professional level playability,
intonation, and electronics and is entirely road worthy. Available
in eight different finishes that convey a truly retro
vibe. Comes with the familiar side binding tape running around
the edge of the guitar. The tape has been lightly
treated with a shellac to enhance the vintage
look. The tuners are die
cast and hold the tuning well. An aluminum nut
contributes to its unique sound.
The '63's lipstick style
Alnico pickups provide that distinctive Dano twang. They are bright
and sparkly, but not shrill. These pickups have the same
design as the ones that appeared in the '50s, when actual lipstick
tubes (purchased from cosmetics makers) were used to house the
electronics.
The jangly pickups and
aluminum nut work well when playing open-position chords and single
lines. Very versatile is the neck pickup—mellow and strong but not
dull, perhaps due to the extra windings and its placement midway
down the string length. The three-position switch and volume and
tone knobs are rugged and stand up well to aggressive swiping and
twisting.
One modern improvement is the
bridge, which, on the reissue, is capable of being
intonated.
A beefy 3-position
(on-on-on) toggle switch and rugged volume and tone
knobs stand up well to aggressive playing. By the way, the
playability is one of the most impressive aspects of this guitar
with low, buzz free action. This is a quality guitar
with plenty of sustain, great tone and it will give you
the feeling that you are playing a much more expensive
instrument.
Also an improvement over the
original is the tuners, which are die cast and hold the tuning well.
The nut is made of aluminum and contributes to the twanginess and
uniqueness of tone that the Dano's were known for. In addition to
sitting in a nut slot, the nut itself is screwed into the top edge
of the fingerboard.
The playability is one of the most
impressive aspects of this guitar. The action is low enough for
velocity playing, yet was buzz-free on every fret.
Aside from being a definite conversation starter, the
Dano '63 is a quality instrument at a an affordable
price!

Dano
'63 Baritone
29.5"
scale
SORRY,
PRE-SOLD OUT

Danelectro was the first to introduce the
Baritone guitar in the late 50's and it quickly
caught on as a signature sound for Spaghetti Western soundtracks.
The Baritone is tuned a fourth lower than a standard guitar. The
open strings are B-E-A-D-F#-B. The Baritone lets you play "tic-tac"
bass or chords. This lower tuning can also be used to play many
songs from bands that use lower tunings. However, there's no general
concensus on how a baritone should be tuned...
- On the low end, the tuning can be
A-D-G-C-E-A five notes below the guitar.
- Most afficionados of the baritone tune
it to B E A D F# B.
- E to E tuning can also be done.
- Other tunings exist too, notably
C#-F#-B-E-G#-C# (a tone and a half below standard), which can also
be achieved on a standard-scale guitar with heavier gauge strings.
This tuning condemns the baritone player to play in 3 more flats,
or 3 less sharps than the other guitars in the ensemble, something
which sends shivers down the spine of most novice and intermediate
players.
